Make money by saving into high interest bank accounts

With the worldwide economy still struggling to get back on its feet, the buzz word going around the moment is security of your money.  People are less likely to be ready to fork over their hard earned cash when everything is still looking a little bit uncertain.  If you are sitting on a pile of money and wondering what to do with it in the short term until the outlook is more certain have you considered depositing it into a high interest bank account?  One of the best places to earn the higher interest rates is with the Australian banks, such as nab or ING.  Their online savings accounts could see you earn over 5% on your money which is not a bad return considering what is going on with the world.

Of course many would argue that now is the best time to buy shares in blue stock companies while they are priced lower and enjoy the capital growth as the market regains confidence and certainty.  This is true.  However not everyone is willing to take on the extra risk, and perhaps you just want to keep your money save until you are sure of what you want to do with it.

It is also a great idea to save your money into a high interest bank account while you are saving for large items such as a car or house deposit.  It allows you to generate a steady (but small) return on your deposit while still having instant access to it when you are ready to make a purchase.

I know several people who had their house deposits and life savings tucked away in a high risk managed fund, ready to use it when they decided to buy their first house.  Here in Australia, with the government grants that were available, they needed to sell down their managed funds quickly when the market had collapsed in order to access their cash if they wanted to take opportunity of the extra government handout.  The best advice is plan for the future and diversify.  High risk managed funds are good if you can take the bad years with the good years.  If you need certainty with your returns then cash is a safer option.

All in all, plan how much money you need to save and make in order to achieve your goals and stick to them.  If you consistently save money into a high interest bank account then you will be able to make money on your money with interest and this will compound and compound the longer you leave it there.  If your plan is to save and leave your cash in a bank account for several years then I would recommend you seek financial advice as you will be able to get better returns (with more risk) in other avenues than cash.

Make Money Online from your website

By matt On May 13, 2009 No Comments

There are many people out there promoting how easy it is to make money online from the internet, by using your own website.  They might be saying all you need to do is register a domain name, plug a template website onto it and within a few short weeks you will start to see the cheques / bank transfers of thousands of dollars start to line your letter box.

In reality this is simply not possible or how it works.  Beware of scam sites that are promoting instant ways to overnight riches.  The only way to make money online is by hard work, creativity and more hard work.  Even if you have the most amazing product or service, its going to take a lot of persistence and patience for people to even discover your site.  On average Google takes 3 weeks to even really discover brand new sites and rank them so unless you can plug immediately into advertising no one is even going to see your website!

The reason so many people fail to make any money online from their websites is that they just don’t stick at it.

I have been around computers, the internet and business for several years.  I had my own personal laptop since early days in school and taught myself coding, various media applications and other tools that help to improve how a computer runs.  I also have been very entrepreneurial from a young age, by doing things such as yearly garage sales to sell all my old stuff to make some money, or sell photographs that I was taking of landscapes on ebay or even teaching young kids music at a local school after hours.  The thing is that all of this, along with two degrees in computer science and commerce has lead me to where I am now.  Making money from the internet isn’t an easy thing.  Depending on the timing on when you start, your niche area and how much money you can invest you might be working for free for quite a few months until your site generates money.  For me it was at least 12 months before I started seeing a postive return.  Why did it take so long?  Well, for this site in particurlar, the keyword ‘make money online’ is incredibly competitive.  There are like 100 million other search results for the term in Google and new blogs, sites, and also those scam sites I mentioned earlier popping up all the time.  Its a big sea of opportunity, but you need to be a big fish to make an impact.

For people that want to make money in a reasonably quick time, its probably best to look at a smaller niche where there is high demand , but low competition.  This will allow you to be the big fish in a small ocean and see returns much quicker.  Of course it helps if you chose an area that your passionate about as you find it much hard to succeed if you aren’t passionate about your business.

How long does it take to make money online?

By matt On May 12, 2009 3 Comments

This is a very tough question which I always get asked by new, online entrepreneur wannabes.  It is a very hard question to which there isn’t a clear cut answer.

It will change depending on each individual person.

What is your motivation?

Obviously you need to have a lot of motivation to do this, however that is not going to make you the next door millionaire is it?  You need to stay motivated even before you see any money hit your bank account.

Get familiar with your niche, with managing your website / blog and make sure your proficient at the techy part of your new business.  You should have a strong motivation to learn these as they will greatly impact upon your success.  Also, when you start out, you don’t want to necessarily have to hire a developer to do the work for you otherwise you might end up spending more than your making.  However, if this option is available to you then it can greatly accelerate your results.  OR at least allow you to spend your time writing useful posts as opposed to learning how to get the video embedded properly (those issues will come up at some point and you will need to learn how to do it).

I can guarantee you that before myself or any other successful online entrepreneurs made any money, we were learning about HTML, how to use wordpress, get to know about marketing strategies and utilize tools like Aweber.

Patience and hardwork is the main aspect that will impact upon you making money online.  They say that on average, it takes between 6 months to a year before most people see any significant money from their online websites.  So stick at it, learn from your mistakes and improve each day.

The magic word ‘Marketing’

Marketing is crucial to any successful business, whether it be an online blog or a convenience store.  Sure, they might be done in a different manner, but without effective marketing the business will not survive.  Some businesses live off a comfortable period of time where they possibly inherited free marketing or just stumble upon marketing, but when times get tough, like they are at the moment with the economy going further downhill each day, marketing is ever more important to stand out from the crowd.

Marketing your website is key to making money online.  Know who your target audience is, learn how they think, react and what they want.  Then give them value.  Do you really want to make money online?  Then you need to offer your readers, your customers and visitors something different.  Get in their shoes and provide them real value.  Market your product, your brand or website so that it stands out.

You need to work out who exactly you are trying to appeal to, then you can work out where they are on the internet.  Don’t just come up with your great idea and then let it sit idle.  Work on it, and spend the time it deserves.  If you really want to make money online then you need to dedicate time to your idea to make it work.  Its no good having the best product, articles or information if you can’t get any one to your site is it?

The key is to stay on top of the latest trends, developments and activities on the web.  If you know what will help your site to be successful you will have an edge and advantage over the competition.  You don’t exactly have to spend tonnes of money on it either, just make sure you know everything you can about internet marketing.  The people who are able to successfully make money online aren’t sitting in front of TV each evening and letting their website go.  They are actively monitoring, trialing and testing different strategies to get traffic to their site.  Stay with it!

So how can you stay on top of things?  Well, make sure you are reading what the authors of the top, successful blogs are saying.  Learn from them.  Subscribe to this blog so you are up to date as new information is posted.

Develop relationships with other sites and start to negotiate back links / cross links.  It is very well known that to improve your ranking on Google you need to have many high quality related sites linking back to your site.  Get your brand and website out there and build the links.  :)

It would be a pretty big fluke if people just landed at your site by accident when you first start, so make sure your active.  Even participate on forums, guest posts on other people’s blogs and use social media.

A final word, when you pick your topic, you might want to go for a topic such as work from home, make money online, get out of debt, lose weight etc.  These are extremely competitive areas.  While very rewarding, be prepared to stick it out for the long term before you get any success.  It may be worth while starting out on a less competitive niche to get some experience, build up your brand and then branch out into the other competitive areas later.

Remember, above all, HAVE FUN!

Wondering when you will make money online? How can you stay motivated??

By matt On March 6, 2009 1 Comment

How to stay motivated to stick it out and make money online….. The case with a lot of inexperienced entrepreneurs is to start their online business with the expectation that they will start making money online within a matter of days and if not weeks.  The reality is that it is extremely difficult to make any money for quite a period of time.  This time frame can vary depending on the industry your involved in, your experience and expertise at what your doing and how much time and money your investing into your new online venture.

So how can you keep yourself motivated and not lose faith that your business will succeed?

Lets assume that you have started a blog that is discussing the topic of how to make money online.  Similar to my blog here.  First of all, its an extremely difficult area to crack into.  Why?  Because everyone is trying to do it. So lets assume that you still want to target this very popular market and start another make money online blog.  How do you keep motivated and stick with it?

Well, first off, be up front with yourself and realise that you are going to have to consistently work at your blog for probably the next 12 months before you see any organic traffic, a dedicated readership and any money from your labour.  You are going to have to build relationships with other blog authors and negotiate and organise links to your blog from their sites.  Remember, this is all before you have even seen one cent from the work you have done online.  You have probably even spent a few hundred dollars by now to get a domain name, hosting, some graphic design work on your blog and everything set up.  Obviously it can be done for much less but it all depends on your experience and time.  If your busy then its much easier to outsource to someone who can do it properly and quickly.  I know for myself I have experience with IT and coding etc, but if its a job that will take me a few hours that I don’t have, I’m more than happy to outsource it to my developer to sort out.  I know it will then get done ASAP and will be correct and I can spend that time doing things that are higher up on my priority list.

So back to the topic at hand.  How to stay motivated.  Well, with any internet business / online venture, you really need to look at the big picture.  This is a long term project.  If you came online to create thousands of dollars within a few weeks then really you were kidding yourself.  I must admit, things are easier than when I first started, especially with tools such as social media and the free video training that is available.

If your in a smaller niche, then things do tend to happen a lot faster.  Google will index your site quicker, your traffic will be more highly targeted and it will be easier to get a dedicated readership.

My advice, if your wanting results faster go for the smaller niches which don’t have as much return potentially, but will allow you to possibly see results earlier.  If your prepared to work at this blog thing for a couple of years then go for the massive target audiences, and hope that in a couple of years it will pay off.  95% of blogs that are started with the purpose of making money online usually become stagnant after a few months, which isn’t going to help Google rank you higher.  While time does matter, you still need to be actively contributing content that is useful, relevant and interesting to people.  The better your content is, the more links you will get to your site.

The thing that is frustrating for me when people send me emails asking how they can make a few thousand dollars over the next month urgently, is that this is not a get rich quick scheme.  To make money online properly requires careful planning, lots of hard work and dedication.  Be prepared to put in a lot of hours getting your site setup.  Remember though, it is worth it!  My various sites now have many links to them, generating thousands of views a week and this has only occurred through a lot of hard work.  Now though, it almost occurs on auto-pilot.  The hard work is done.  I simply write new, fresh articles and the rest of the stuff takes care of itself.

The important thing is to create your make money online business in an area that you love.  If your not passionate about it, it will be almost impossible to keep at it for the long term.

Feel free to add in the comments section what keeps you motivated and your eye on the ball (so to speak) to make money online.
